Shaolin Center's Response to COVID-19

Updated: Oct 25, 2022

Dear Students, No doubt, you have been following the news surrounding the outbreak of COVID-19, or Coronavirus. Within only a few days, major changes have been made across the country to stem the progression of the disease through our communities: Professional sports have suspended their playing seasons, major events have been cancelled or postponed, and universities have extended their spring breaks and adjusted instruction to online classes. Looking at the results available from countries like China and Italy, it appears that social distancing has indeed played an important role in containing the virus, so it only follows that the U.S. should try and do the same. This is a unique set of circumstances, and the responsibility for the health and safety for all our students continues to be my main priority. I carefully considered a number of options regarding remaining open or closing the studio, and feel at this time it is best to close for the next two weeks. This decision was not made lightly, but with confirmed cases in Waukesha County and Governor Evers' mandate to close all schools in the coming weeks, cancelling classes now feels the safest and most appropriate thing to do.

To be clear: ShaoLin Center will be closed for ALL activities from Monday, March 16 through Sunday, March 29, 2020.

Within this two-week period, the instructors and I will be working on contingency plans should the shutdown require an extension. Hopefully, we will see a return to "normal" activities by the end of the month; should this be the case, we will not take a spring break in April and can make up some of our missed classes during that time. Please understand that any decision moving forward is entirely dependent on the level of the virus’s impact on our community. Any changes will be communicated via email, our website, and our Facebook page.  There are precautions we can all take to protect ourselves in the coming days, weeks, and months. I encourage you to seek out reputable resources for maintaining your health and personal safety.  As always, I appreciate your support of the school, and our mission of learning how to live a longer, healthier, happier life. This will continue to be the guiding principle as we move forward. Hold fast to the center, SiFu Steven C. Kleppe
