The Foundation for ShaoLin Center

Sifu Steve Kleppe.jpg

SiGung Steven C. Kleppe began his martial arts journey at the age of 20. First training and instructing in Chinese Kenpo Karate and Yang style Tai Chi, SiFu Kleppe enriched his martial experience through numerous teachers and masters; ultimately, his path led him to Grandmaster Kwong Wing Lam, with whom he had studied since the early 1980s. In 2008, SiFu Kleppe was honored to become one of Grandmaster Lam's "in-door" disciples.  As such, he accepted the responsibility of passing forward vital material including Canton Hung Gar, Ha Say Fu Hung Gar, Yang style Tai Chi Chuan, Wudang sword, Sun style Tai Chi Chuan, BaGua Zhang, Xing Yi, Northern ShaoLin, and Iron Body Qigong training.

Describing himself as "blessed," SiFu Kleppe traveled extensively throughout the United States and China to work with masters in various systems. Multiple pilgrimages to China's ShaoLin, WuDang, Emei, and Small Goose Pagoda Temples, as well as visits to martial training centers in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, and Xian, allowed SiGung Kleppe to literally bring the world of traditional Chinese arts to students in Southeastern Wisconsin.

ShaoLin Center was founded in 1982 as a full-time community resource for traditional Chinese martial arts and culture, Taoist philosophy, and healing practices. In 2022, SiGung Kleppe entered semi-retirement, and passed the school to his longtime student and disciple, SiFu Dustin Buxrude. He continues to teach part-time at ShaoLin Center.

ShaoLin Center Today

Red-Headed Step Child.jpg

SiFu Dustin Buxrude found his passion in the martial arts at a very young age when he started training in Muay Thai with a Laotian family. In 2000, he became a student at ShaoLin Boxing Methods (now ShaoLin Center) where he learned Northern ShaoLin, Southern Hung Gar, Chin Na, and Southern Lion Dancing from SiGung Kleppe. SiFu Buxrude's years of study and dedication, including two trips to China for intensive training, culminated in his Bai Si with SiGung Kleppe in 2018, and a formal acknowledgement as a SiFu in 2021.

When SiGung Kleppe prepared for semi-retirement, SiFu Buxrude stepped forward to continue the school so community members would have a place to learn traditional Chinese martial arts, grow as individuals, and feel safe in their journeys.

Our Lineage

Young SiGung.jpg

SiGung Kleppe's primary instruction was overseen by Grandmaster Kwong Wing Lam. Born and raised in Canton, China, Grandmaster Lam learned numerous systems from some of the defining icons of the Chinese martial arts community. These were passed on to SiGung Kleppe, and subsequently to SiFu Buxrude, and are taught today at ShaoLin Center.
